Some More Thoughts on Immigration

Did you know that immigrants account for 18% of the nation's labor force and with our current shift in the service industry and total job vacancies amounting to around 10 million (give or take), immigrants should be readily welcomed. With less than 3 million border encounters last year coupled with legal immigration, where just over a million are granted residency each year, we can take people in, despite the rhetoric of jobs being taken. Plus, immigrants create new commerce, both in industriousness and consumption, so we can maintain a more fluid pathway. And, national birthrates are down, so it may become an absolute necessity to allow more immigrants anyway. The Hart-Cellar Act is inefficient to deal with the economic realities, the global need, and it actually creates illegal immigration because of its caps and restrictions.
